2003 Open Track Challenge

2002 Pro Fabrication Sports Racer Sedan

Corporate Computer Centers is thrilled to participate in the 2003 running of the Open Track Challenge.  This year's OTC is a seven day endurance event consisting of time trials at seven different tracks in seven different cities.  It's a huge effort with long days on the track and even longer drives each night covering well over 2000 miles.

We'd like to thank Fujitsu Limited for all their support and encouragement as our title sponsor for this event.  We also owe a great deal to sponsor Instant Imprints for their terrific work on the car graphics, logo wear and banners.  Also supporting our effort was Electropedic Products, LapTrax, Inc., Sigil Games Online and Speed Ventures.  A big thanks also goes to the entire Corporate Computer Centers team for their support and assistance during the race.

Our OTC entry is powered by a sealed Kawasaki ZX-11 1100cc DOHC four cylinder engine generating 140 horsepower.  Power is transmitted through a six speed sequential transmission via a driveshaft to a solid axle rear end.  Tires are bias-ply Hoosier slicks mounted on lightweight steel wheels.  Safety features include a full tube chassis with integrated roll cage, on-board Halon fire suppression system, all steel brake and fuel lines, window nets and an eight gallon fuel cell.  The power to weight ratio of this car is roughly equal to a Corvette Z06 but we are able to generate much higher cornering forces and better braking due to the light weight of the car.

Our 2003 Open Track Challenge resulted in a first place trophy for our class (OTCX2).  Below are links to our diary and pictures for each day of the event.  A short biography of our team drivers is located at the bottom of the page.

Mike Schriber, Driver & Team Owner
San Diego, CA
Dave Gilbertson, Driver

Mike Schriber is Vice President and General Manager of Corporate Computer Centers, Inc.  He was born in Detroit Michigan and moved to San Diego in 1982.  Still a San Diego resident, Mike lives in the Sorrento Mesa area with his wife Julia and daughter Nicole.  Always a performance car enthusiast, Mike started with a 1982 Ford Mustang GT and worked his way up to a C5 Corvette Coupe in 1999.

Introduced to road racing by friends, he starting running with TCRA and later with Speed Ventures as a driver and instructor.  In 2002 Mike won first place in the Speed Ventures Corvette Challenge (STOCK2) and holds the last spot in the Speed Ventures Top Five Fastest at Spring Mountain Raceway.

In late 2002 Mike switched to a new purpose built race car and became interested in the OTC after talking with plenty of enthusiastic people such as Doug Hayashi, Rylan Hazelton, Rupert Bragg-Smith, and Jason Rhoades.  After pestering Brian Provost for weeks on end, OTCX2 was created and the team was allowed in.

Since he's only had one test day at The Streets of Willow Springs to break in the car and get used to it's characteristics, running the OTC should prove to be very interesting indeed!

Dave Gilbertson is a Senior Artist and 3D Modeler at Sigil Games Online.  He was born in Los Angeles California and now lives in Vista California with his wife Maria.

A long time street and off-road motorcycle enthusiast, Dave was an amateur dirt bike racer throughout the 1990's.  He also drove his sport bike at several track events.  Dave still rides his multiple motorcycles today.  Dave got his start in Road Racing in 1999 with the purchase of his third generation RX-7.  Running with TCRA and later with Speed Ventures as a driver and instructor, Dave discovered and honed is excellent skill in quickly navigating a race course.  In his relatively low powered RX-7 (with suspension modifications), Dave has often posted faster times than cars with twice the horsepower.

Dave was ready to run the OTC in any car available and can't wait to hit the track.  He is a fierce competitor who's always trying for more speed.

Dave only has twenty minutes of seat time in the Pro Fabrication car so the OTC should be quite interesting for him as well as Mike.  Having come from a low torque, high grip car, Dave should settle into the new car quite quickly and expects to beat Mike's lap times right out of the blocks.
